Amy Brill
Amy Brill
Handmade Sweaters are unique in many ways. Brill spins, twists, and dyes
her own, mostly cotton, yarns to make all of her sweaters. The sweaters
are then knit using a knitting machine. Brill has part time employees to
help her twist, but the process is still extremely labor intensive. Nine
ounces of yarn are spun at a time, a very time consuming process, but one
that allows Amy Brill yarns to be unique and to define the company’s market
niche. While Amy Brill Sweaters are expensive due to their intensive production,
they are bought not only by wealthy customers, but also by customers who
are looking for quality knitwear that will not fall apart. They are also
bought by knitters who usually knit their own sweaters, but will splurge
for Amy Brill Handmade Sweaters because they cannot copy the yarns the
company uses

Barbara de Jounge
Barbara de Jounge, a fiber artist living in Laguna Beach, California, works by cutting, slashing, shredding or otherwise distressing wool fabric before dying, felting and creating her unique edgy and artful creations. Like her other designs, Barbara's newest sweaters are created to be playful, sophisticated and interesting in design, while extraordinarily comfortable. Her works have been sold in the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art Gift Shop and are currently featured at the Chicago Museum of Contemporary Art Gift Shop.

BKG
“Any sweater would suffice, but BKg's are really nice!”
BKg & Company New York is a sweater company run by a family enjoying its place in the competition between American-made clothing and imported goods.
BKg’s guiding principle ~ that their customers deserve something special ~ is contagious! ? It’s a great thing to see a woman’s eyes light up when she sees the perfect style or color. Enabling a woman to feel happier and prettier with herself is one of the nicest benefits of this business. Our designs are ‘uncomplicated and optimistic’, with simplicity and clarity in style and color. We hold on to our original concept of function AND folly that complements the upbeat and positive individualism of the woman wearing BKg.
The boutiques BKg works with also embrace the American tradition of owning and running a business. “While we compete with imports, our stores compete with ‘majors’. We both recognize and accept the challenge of actively pursuing and defining a unique identity that attracts and keeps our customers. A great benefit for all of us doing business in the States is our ability to pick up on subtle nuances and act on them quickly… we’re not stuck on six month lead times as dictated by those overseas.” It’s all a part of the domestic experience. The BKg family is thrilled to work and succeed with others of a like mind, who create a vital contribution to the quality of American life!
